The Fair = Lots of Moos & Baas

We took Hunter to the Fair last week. I wanted to take him because I knew he would love seeing all the animals... and he did! He calls all the animals by the sound they make... moo, baa, nee. We started out in the petting zoo. Hunter loves getting up close with the animals. Daddy hovered over to make sure he didn't get knocked down or bit. He really is completely fearless of the animals and loves to chase after them. It's hard to get a pic of him holding still and looking but you can see in these pics how excited he is.

The same barn as the petting zoo was filled with cages of chicken and bunnies. His little face smashed against a bunny cage.
Daddy was a little extra cautious holding him most of the time and trying to keep his fingers out of the goats mouth. He wanted to touch everything.

Above with the only llama at the fair. Adam was keeping his distance again for fear of being spit on.
There were several barns filled with cows, sheep, goats and pigs. We walked through all of them. I think he loved the barn with the sheep the most. Adam let him down and he ran from pen to pen saying "baaaaa" and getting more excited every time he found more sheep.
To complete the "fair" experience he stepped in some cow do-do and we didn't realize til Adam picked him up again and it got all over Adam's shirt and shorts : )
That was about all we did since he's too little for rides or games. We walked thru a couple buildings and managed to find a free balloon. He kept seeing balloons all over and gets so excited. The only balloon we found though said "Vote Democratic." We got it on our way out so we didn't have to walk around with it and Hunter loved it anyways : ) He played with it all the way home, that night and the next day until he finally popped it.
Hunter saying I love my democratic balloon : )

Frogs, Butterflies and More!

Hunter loves running around outside and one of his newest favorite outdoor activities is looking for frogs (really toads... but we call them frogs.) He actually calls them "pogs" and he gets so excited to find one. Lucky for us they are everywhere this year, must be due to the very wet year we've had. Lots and lots of little ones and some big ones too. He has quickly learned that to find frogs you flip over rocks, boards, sticks and he knows where we usually find them and loves checking those spots. He's not afraid to poke at them and screams with delight and jumps around when they try to hop away.

Daddy's holding a little frog in this picture for Hunter to squeal at.

Looking under rocks for any "pogs."
Daddy and Hunter checking a popular frog hang-out in my flowers. Hunter found a big one here by himself one day and was SO excited!
We put one in a bowl for him to watch and he just loves it.
There's also butterflies everywhere right now and Hunter loves trying to chase them around too. He calls butterflies "bies." This morning we had a really big, beautiful butterfly fluttering around my flowers. It stayed pretty close and just kept coming back to the flowers.
You can see how excited he is. He likes to watch it fly around and come back.
Another outdoor fave lately is finding dandelions that have gone to seed. Adam started this with him one day and he loves it. He sees one and runs to pick it and then gets his little pointy finger up by his face and looks and looks for another. When he sees another he says "more" and runs to get it. He runs around the yard saying "more, more." We do this at least twice a day.
He's carrying his baseball around in this picture. He loves finding other little treasures like smooth rocks or walnuts or something else round and he'll carry those around all day too. I can usually barely pry whatever it is out of his hand before we go back inside.
So that's our outdoor adventures these days. Luckily Mommy is not really bothered by frogs and will help look for them and catch them. Snakes now.... I leave that up to Daddy!!

Haircut

So if you hadn't noticed from recent pics, Hunter was really in need of a haircut. Up til now I've cut it myself but I had decided this time he just has too much hair for me to try and cut! I didn't get any pics of the actual haircut mostly because he was wrapped around my neck the whole time but here's a few "before" shots. It was especially long in the back!

This was as we were leaving to go get it cut.
I took him to my friend Nicole, who usually cuts my hair. First he acted shy, which he never does. Then he just wanted nothing to do with her, the scissors, the chair, anything! I was beginning to think it just wasn't going to happen and she suggested going outside to try. That worked a little better and I held Hunter as she snipped away. It was pretty hot out so we went back in and continued to try and chop away. She did a good job considering he was wrapped around me most of the time!

Here's an "after" Later that day at home.
It is much shorter, especially in the back. I think it has to be cooler too for him. I might try again next time he needs it until he gets a little older and learns to hold still better!!
