I've been reading The Vaccine Book. I'm finding it very interesting. It's not an anti-vaccine book but does talks about each vaccine, the disease you're being vaccinated against, pros/cons, reactions, vaccine ingredients, how they are made and then his opinion about that vaccine. I wish I would have read this before Hunter got a billion shots. I think either way I'd feel better just being more educated about the vaccine instead of just getting it because you feel like you have too. I think too I'd try to do some things differently. For instance not getting the Hep B vaccine when he's 1 day old instead wait until 2 months.....is he going to catch a sexually transmitted disease in the 1st 2 months of life! I don't think so. Also, spreading out all the vaccines which contain aluminum. He makes a point that while aluminum is everywhere in our environment and thought to be harmless when swallowed.... is it toxic in large amounts and how much is too much for a little baby?? A lot of the vaccines contain aluminum and there's not really any studies showing the results of getting big amounts of it at one time in vaccines. And did you know that some vaccines contain monkey kidney cells, cow serum, cow tissue and many other animal or human tissue cells. Hmnnnn. It's also interesting that some of the diseases they vaccinate against are really harmless to infants, they are just being vaccinated to protect others and stop the spread of the disease. (which of course is the point) It's scary to read all the side effects. Hunter obviously never had a major reaction but he did have a tough time with his 4 month shots. He had a red swollen bump on both legs for weeks after the shot. When I called the Dr. he said "it's perfectly normal!"
I think it's a good read if you have a baby and are dealing with vaccinations. He breaks it down so it's pretty easy to understand but it's still a little bit of heavy reading. I'm still not sure how I feel about it all really and I'm not sure how our Dr. would react to trying to do things a little differently. But like I said I feel a little better just becoming a little more educated about the whole process. It's really a lot to consider and you just want to do the best thing for your child.

Thanks for the book recommendation. Even though Matt and I don't have children yet, this is an area of concern for us. We have some friends whose kids had their shots but because of their genetic makeup (predisposition to autism & problems with metals in the body) it has caused a number of health problems later. I know that theirs is a rare case but I also know that I'm uneducated in this area. Thanks for sharing what you have learned!
Interesting indeed. Can I borrow it when you're done? :-)
Glad for the info. I hadn't read anything on human vaccination's but I've read quite a bit on animal vaccinations. We completely over vaccinate our pets. Yearly rabies, parvo, distemper etc. are all unnecessary. The only one required by law is rabies, and in some states they allow 3 years. Keep in mind this is NOT b/c the shot is noneffective in 1-3 yrs but b/c vaccine companies make money selling the shots over and over. I know this is a "baby" forum, but many people w/ kids often have pets.
